Default Sulthan Bathery is located at a distance of 115 kms from Kozhikode

Kerala is rightly called God’s Own Country. It is a land that is blessed by Mother Nature. There are mountains, beaches, backwater resorts, lush green paddy fields, coconut and areca nut palms and plantations of cardamom, pepper and banana. It is also called Spice Garden of India. The land is covered with greenery as far as the eye can see. This picturesque land is a tourist destination for many years now. There are many destinations that are very famous like Kovalam, Munnar and Cochin. But with many people preferring a weekend getaway from work, there are other places that are slowly becoming popular with the tourists. Wayanad, in Kerala is now emerging as a tourism destination that is very popular with the technical professionals from the Silicon Valley of India.

The district of Wayanad is close to the Karnataka border and is nestled in the Western Ghats. It is covered by dense forests and greenery all around. There are many tourist spots in this district that are now popular with the tourists. The District capital is Kalpetta. There is an important town in Wayanad called Sulthan Bathery. This town is located on the Kozhikode- Mysore National highway, From Sulthan bathery distance to Kozhikode is about 115 kms and 100 kms from Ooty. It is situated about 930 mts above sea level and the sky is fringed with folded hills. This is the center of tourism in Wayanad district. The origin of the name Sulthan bathery is itself interesting. Tipu Sultan, the erstwhile ruler of Mysore gave away this region to the British according to the Treaty of Srirangapatna. He stored his ammunition in a Jain temple here. Hence the name Sultan battery. It has got transformed to Sulthan Bathery. Initially, this place was called Ganapativattom because of the famous Ganesha temple here. The Jain temple belongs to the 13th century. There are a number of stone carvings and wall paintings that make this place a worthwhile tourist spot.
