Default The betrayal - nerakhoon

During Vietnam War, the U.S. government conducted a secret war in the neighboring country of Laos. When the U.S. withdrew, thousands of Laotians who fought alongside American forces were left behind to face imprisonment or execution. One family, the Phrasavaths, made the courageous decision to escape to America. There, they discovered a different kind of war.

Filmed over 23 years, THE BETRAYAL is the directorial debut of renowned cinematographer ELLEN KURAS (ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, BLOW) in a remarkable collaboration with the film's subject and co-director Thavisouk Phrasavath.

Epic in scope yet devastatingly intimate, featuring a score by Academy Award winning composer Howard Shore, THE BETRAYAL is a testament to the resilient bonds of family and an astonishing tale of survival.

This movie is nothing more than a propaganda to degrade southeast asian. The war and the suffering was true, but people don't like to be reminded by their old wounds. It's like adding insult to an injury. Even the poorest parts of Africa, poorest known by humankind so far, are moving up on the social ladder.

hmmm...have you sen the movie? i see it as someone's view....what he experienced and how he felt about it. i think it could be propoganda to those who might make it somewhat a political matter and drive the advertising in that way.... but it's his own account on his life events. i respect it. i see no degrading. there are bad and good sides of everything. someone taking offense to this does show some insecurity issues on their part.

This type of movie is not a form of entertainment. I haven't seen it, but I can tell from the cover, that it looks sad. It's definitely not art and culture. Lao culture needs a dose of the art and culture. My impression is that people don't know what they're doing. I heard someone said in their email that padag(fermented fish) is part of Lao national identity. It's true that many people eat this food, but it's not the nicest thing to emphasize about Lao culture. My motto is that people should live with dignity even when they have little money.

to me anything is entertainment depending on who wants to see it. but this is not for fun. this is for an artist to convey feelings and experiences. that's all artists do. the other stuff is to make money. art is not entirely for the audience, it is for the artist's expression. To me, people know exactly what they are doing. they do what they like and it makes them happy.

many Lao people eat padek. just because there is a joke or comment about it doesnt mean it identifies Lao people. Most Lao people are able to joke and not be so serious about anything like that. However, to say that joking in this way is to not keep our dignity is totally the opposite. i think i can say Lao people instill their dignity in working hard, being modest, and being jai boun....helping, caring, doing good. rich and poor eat pa dek. doesnt matter what food you eat or how much money you have. i believe everything should be emphasized to see the truth in reality. it's life.
