Any one can enroll at any private school in US as long as they meet the qualifications i.e: adcademic's standard (each school setted differently) and financial stabilty...etc. the fee's can be outrageous depending on what school u choose. the public school is always a long waiting list but not limited to those who are capable. Why is this becoming a sensitive topic? ...i certainly do not aware of it... what else can we not discuss? I must admit that i've been away from our motherland which shows a limiting knowledge. However, the intention is very clear, i mean no ill toward the system and way of life in Laos..

UM...
i was interrested too...so i searched... 17th century-Temples buddhist education for lao boys and litteracy to territories. 1917-education system loosely similar to France..but for the most part, the wat provided education to the majority 1955-construction of elementary and secondary schools 1958-higher education became available...first university: Sisavangvong University 1959-Formal Arts training...music, visual arts, etc. 1969-the university had 3 "consituent colleges"...."the Royal Medical Institute and the Royal Laws and Administration Institute." technical schools were set up in the major cities (Luang, Savanh, Pakse) 1975-exodus of teaching staff...Sisavangvong University was dissolved and seperated into seperate colleges...there was no degree awarding institution then 1970s to 1980s-higher education could be persued in the USSR 1990s-higher education was unable to be persued in the USSR 1996-"the National University of Laos (NUOL) was established, grouping together the former Vientiane Teacher Training College, National Polytechnic Institute, College of Medical Science, College of Electronics and Electrotechnology, Vientiane School of Transport and Communications, Vientiane School of Architecture, Tad Thong School of Irrigation, Dongdok College of Forestry, Nabong College of Agriculture and Veunkham Agriculture Centre." now-NUOL comprises of 11 faculties "The general education system in Laos comprises pre-school education (creche and kindergarten), primary education (five years), lower secondary education (three years) and upper secondary education (three years). Private schools and colleges have been encouraged since 1990." -http://www.culturalprofiles.org.uk/laos/Directories/Laos_Cultural_Profile/-29.html i think, only from what i have observed and read, that private schools are attended mostly by students living in the major cities, whose parents have a certainly greater income range than the country's per capita income, and those who think certain private schools might offer a higher standard of education than the local public school. not every public school is the same, just as not every private school is the same. it mainly depends on location and money. also depends on the levels of education the parents recievedand the importance of education in the home. that's my summary
